11 People, dies on their way to Kano for a Nigerian Navy screening exam in a deadly road accident


Eleven young men from Jigawa State’s Gagarawa Local Government Area died in a road accident while commuting to Kano for the Nigerian Navy screening/Aptitude examination.

The accident occurred on Saturday, December 12, along the Jigawa-Kano road, when their vehicle rammed into a trailer that was wrongly parked on the road.

It was confirmed that the applicants left their homes at about 5:00 a.m. Hoping to reach their destination for the test on time.

Today, at 30 centers around the country, the Nigerian Navy Aptitude Test for the 2020 recruitment exercise takes place.

The deceased people were named by a local, Abba Muhammad, as Auwalu Mohammed; Mutari Sule; Ibrahim Sani; Katimu Muhammad; Dauda Salisu; Musbahu Yakubu, Rabiu Muhammad-Ado; Salim Muhammad-Sani; Akibu Ubali-sale; and Murtala Salisu, while another has yet to be identified who died in the hospital.


Muhammad whose brother was among the victims, that the reckless driving and nonchalant approach of the state authorities to prosecute reckless drivers was responsible for the recurring crash on the Gagarawa-Kano Highway.

The Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, Audu Jinjiri, announced that the accident involved a commercial Golf 3 wagon with registration number AA 320 TAR, Jigawa, carrying 12 passengers to Kano.

The driver, Auwalu Muhammad, 30, was driving with the aforementioned passengers from Gagarawa Local Government to Kano. Jinjiri said when he entered ‘Abdullahi Masallaci’ and rammed into a stationed DAF vehicle.

After developing a mechanical fault, the vehicle, with registration number DUT 201, Jigawa, was parked by one Aminu Hassan, 25, of the Mallamadori Local Government Area of Jigawa.

The truck was parked and nearly half of the incoming lane was blocked, resulting in ten people, including the driver, losing their lives on the spot and two others reacting to treatment. Another victim died later in the hospital and all bodies (are) released for burial to relatives,’ he explained.

The spokesperson said the truck driver was arrested and will soon be charged.

In the meantime, Adamu Usman posted pictures on Facebook of ten of the victims, describing the disaster as a sorrowful moment for the state of Nigeria and Jigawa.
