In Warri, Delta State, a 27-year-old man known as Prince Mieyebi was stabbed to death by three armed men after he allegedly won N15 million in a betting game.
It was found out that the young man was killed while closing his aunt’s shop at the famous Ogbe-Ijoh market in the Warri South State Local Government Area on November 27.
According to reports, after stabbing him in different parts of his body, the assailants fled with the dead person’s mobile phone. He died before being taken to a hospital nearby.
Mr. Thomas Ogisi, an uncle of the deceased, who confirmed Saturday’s murder, reported that the deceased had played a poker game a week before his death, with all his predictions going up to N15 million.
It was not clear if the murder was related to the confirmed win of N15 million since his account could not be reached because his phone was taken away by the assailants.
The boy stays with my elder sister. They were on the Ogbe-Ijoh market on that fateful day and were planning to close when three boys unexpectedly stopped him in the shop and stabbed him. The incident occurred on Friday at about 6 pm. They retrieved only his phone after stabbing him and left.
Before he was rushed to the hospital, he was already dead.
The information we are hearing from his friends indicate that he was killed because he won N15 million from a betting game. He was expecting the money to be paid to him on Wednesday before he was stabbed to death on Monday.
Some of his friends were aware of the money.
We are demanding justice for the gruesome killing of our son. We want a thorough investigation by the police. We are not also happy with the level of security at the market, he said.
