In the Oyo state civil service, three hundred and sixty-two ghost employees have been discovered.
Professor Adio Folayan, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development in the State, made this known on Tuesday, November 3, when he presented the report of the verification committee set up in Ado Ekiti, the capital, by State Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Folayan said that ghost employees, who are primarily in the local government areas of the state, lose around 20 m a month to the state government. He added that the Accountant-General of the State had been ordered to avoid the ghost workers ‘ salaries.
According to him, with their accomplices, the ghost workers will be tried for bribery, adding that all department heads have been directed to impose discipline.
Governor Fayemi vowed that all the committee’s recommendations would be immediately enforced.
