5 kids, and nine others dead as truck rams into passenger bus in Kogi


On Thursday, January 14, fourteen people, including five children, were killed in a ghastly motor accident along the Anyingba-Ajaokuta road in Kogi State.

Solomon Aghure, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) State Sector Commander, who reported the development to newsmen in Lokoja on Friday, said that the accident involved three vehicles, two trucks, and a passenger bus.

Aghure said Dangote’s trucks and a bus with the inscription, Bright Mass Transit, were traveling to Anyingba on the same lane when one of the trucks unexpectedly hit the passenger bus from behind and the bus also hit the truck in its front as a result of the impact.

Aghure said the bus was stuck with all the passengers between the two trucks until his men arrived at the scene to carry out a rescue operation that lasted for hours.

He said 14 of the 23 individuals involved in the accident died on the spot, while nine others suffered varying degrees of injury.

Three female children, two male children, eight women and one man were among those who died.

In addition, the Sector Commander clarified that three men, one woman and five children, consisting of two male children and three female children, were fortunate as they survived some injuries in the accident.

He said the wounded were taken for treatment to Holley Memorial Hospital, Ochadamu, while the corpses were deposited at the Grimard Hospital morgue, Anyingba.

On the part of the truck that hit the bus from behind, Aghure attributed the accident to a potential break breakdown but said further investigation would be carried out to ascertain the exact cause.
