Actress Dame Barbara Windsor, is dead following long battle with Alzheimer’s disease

The actress, best known for her roles as Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders and in the films Carry On, passed away peacefully with her husband Scott Mitchell by her side at 8.35 pm on Thursday, December 10, at a London nursing home.

Mr. Mitchell called her his “precious bar” in a moving tribute and said, “I have lost my love, my best friend and soulmate, and without you, my heart or life will never be the same.”

He said that she had died from Alzheimer’s as he had just spent the past seven days by her side.

That was not the end deserved by Barbara or anyone else living with this very cruel disease, “It was not the ending that Barbara or anyone else living with this very cruel disease deserves,”

“I will always be immensely proud of Barbara’s courage, dignity, and generosity dealing with her own illness and still trying to help others by raising awareness for as long as she could.”

Her final weeks, Mr. Mitchell said, were “typical of how she lived her life” being “full of humor, drama and a fighting spirit until the end”

In 2014, the soap and film actor was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disorder.

In 2016, she was made a Dame and then revealed that in 2018, four years after she was diagnosed, she was suffering from Alzheimer’s. In July 2020, she moved into a nursing home.
