After 35 years on the run, ‘Drug Kingpin’ Howard Darwin Farley Jr. was finally arrested


Finally, an alleged drug kingpin who has been on the move since 1985 has been arrested.

U.S. according to The Florida Middle District Attorney’s Office, Howard Darwin Farley Jr., 72, was arrested in southeastern Marion County this week when he attempted to board his private plane.

Officials said in a news release from that department that Howard, on Wednesday, December 2, was taken into custody at his Weirsdale home and transferred to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on charges of making false claims while applying for a U.S. passport, using the name of a child who died in 1955.

Farley was attempting to get on his private plane, which was in a hangar at his home when he was apprehended, authorities said. In the name of a deceased person, federal officials said Farley had obtained a pilot’s license.

Farley’s house was raided and a pistol was seized by law enforcement officers.

Authorities used fingerprints to prove Farley was the man they sought.

He has been a Nebraska refugee since 1985 and was sentenced in 1970 to a burglary in Nebraska, federal officials said.

Farley was suspected of being the drug kingpin of a railway line that drug traffickers used to sell drugs throughout the United States, a statement from the United States. The Middle District of Florida attorney’s office said.

Farley was the only person who had not been taken into custody, out of 73 persons indicted. He assumed the name of someone who had died and had been on the run for 35 years, officials said.

A variety of authorities, including the U.S., are investigating the case. Diplomatic Security Service of the Department of State, Department of Transportation, with the assistance of the Ocala Police Department, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Bureau.
