When they came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 on Sunday, Manchester United established a new club record.

After 30 minutes of the Premier League confrontation at St Mary’s through goals from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse, the Red Devils found themselves two goals down.

However, United fought back in the second period, with star midfielder Bruno Fernandes pulling one back with his seventh league goal of the season for the visitors just before the hour mark.

15 minutes later, replacement striker Edinson Cavani leveled the scoreline before sealing the three points with another goal deep in stoppage time.

The outcome was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team’s eighth away win in a row in the Premier League, setting a new record for the Old Trafford outfit.

It is also the fourth time United has managed to claw its way back from behind in a row to secure a victory.

In the first half, despite the struggles of his side, Solskjaer said he always had faith that they could find a way back into the tie.

“I was quite calm [at half-time],” he told BBC Sport. It’s about not conceding that goal and making the next one.

“In that game, there was always going to be another one. We had to have five or six clear-cut chances in the game today, so when we got the chance, it was about taking them. This worked.

“It is a trait of Manchester United to never give in Every single one of them there was absolutely no chance they were going to give up. That’s a big thing for a Manchester United player and person.”

United is now seventh in the English top-flight and five points behind Liverpool’s leaders, although there is a game in hand for Solskjaer’s men.

When they face Paris Saint-Germain at home on Wednesday, they will now turn their focus to Champions League duties.

After four matches, United sit top of Group H with nine points – three ahead of their French counterparts.
