As the champions head to Etihad Stadium for a major Premier League clash on Sunday, the Argentinian striker has not recovered from hamstring injury

With Pep Guardiola announcing he is “not ready,” Sergio Aguero has lost his race to be fit for the crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool leaders.

In Sunday’s game at Etihad Stadium, the Manchester City striker had hoped to recover from a hamstring injury in time to face the champions.

With a knee injury, Aguero missed the beginning of the season and then suffered a hamstring setback only a week into his return.

Earlier this week, he was back on the training pitch but is not fit enough to face Liverpool, but there is better news about who is available, Gabriel Jesus.

In midweek, the Brazilian returned, scoring in the Champions League victory over Olympiacos and may start against the side of Jurgen Klopp.

In the meantime, Guardiola agreed with Jurgen Klopp that “the most complicated game in the world of football” is the fixture between City and Liverpool.

During recent seasons, the two sides have dominated English football and will rekindle their massive rivalry at the Etihad Stadium.

Asked if he agreed with the comment made by the Liverpool boss, Guardiola said: “Absolutely.” I agree with Jurgen not all the time-but 90 to 95 percent of the time.

Liverpool is still top of the Premier League and five points ahead of City having played a game more, but Guardiola denied that it was a must-win game too early in the season and claims that not the only title rivals are the two clubs.

It’s an important game, but all the votes must be counted, much like the presidential election in America. “He joked,” [There are] a lot of points to play for.

“It’s important, of course, we can’t deny it, but it’s only the seventh game and there are a lot of points to play for. We know that to beat them, we won and lost in the past, we have to do a good job. We’re going to do our best to beat them.”

The City boss maintains that Liverpool remains the favorite to win the title, but says Leicester, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal have shown that they are capable of mounting a challenge in their early season form.

“They are the biggest favorite, but I think the situation is a little different with what happened to the pandemic,” he said.

I see other teams strong: apart from the last month and a half of it when they lost points, Leicester kept the standard from last season but now have extremely solid results from their starting XI and substitutions.

Arsenal has taken a big step forward to be competitors; Mourinho has the team at Tottenham what he wants; Chelsea is now so stable, not conceding goals and scoring a lot and getting a large squad for top players to rotate.

Manchester United is not in terms of results at this stage, but we saw the consistency they had last season, we lost a lot in outcomes, and they are extremely fast and clinical up front.

“They’re top class. I think there’s going to be a lot of teams this season. It’s going to be critical for the last five to 10 games to get there to battle for the championship. We expect to be there and arrive at the end with a chance to fight for the title.”
