After the amount of reported COVID-19 cases crossed the 100,000 level, the federal government may be inclined to declare another lockdown in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded 1,024 new cases on Sunday, January 10.

It brought to 100,087 the total number of infections.

NCDC also said there were now 1,358 total deaths and the case fatality rate in the country was 1.5 percent.

Nigeria’s active cases were 18,699, the public health agency said.

Last week, the FG admitted that if the number of COVID-19 infections continued to spike, there would be no choice but to enforce a new lockdown on the region.

This was confirmed on Friday during a media briefing in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu.

Aliyu said the increasing infections of the coronavirus are of concern and could require a new lockdown.

“He said, “We will have no choice if these figures continue to go up and we begin to have major deaths. If we do not want to shut down, now is the time to make sure that the non-pharmaceutical steps are followed.
