Senate President Ahmad Lawan has cautioned that if political office holders and politicians continue to pay lip service to unemployment issues, another protest is looming in the country.
Ahmad warned when, on Monday, November 9, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Sabo Nanono, led his ministry’s top officials to defend its 2021 budget before the Senate Agriculture Committee.
He urged his colleagues in government positions to integrate youth jobs and empowerment into the 2021 budget in order to prevent another round of # EndSARS protests.
We’ve seen some of our young people demonstrating lately. Some of them, very sincere, were looking for leaders’ attention and they got the attention. Our budget, particularly for 2021, should, therefore, be aware of what we are doing to provide these young people with employment opportunities.
They showed because they could do so, they protested. There are so many other individuals who may not be young but who are in the same need, too. They have not complained.
Let’s meet them where they are. We don’t want to wait before they start grumbling or protesting, too”, He said.
