Apple’s Siri to support playing animal sounds

siri

According to The Verge, Siri got a new trick with the release of iOS 14.3 yesterday: the capacity to play real-world sound samples on command.

“And the sound will start playing for you. If you ask for an iPhone or iPad, you’ll also be shown a photo.

For a few years now, Google Assistant has been able to do this, but now it is available for the iPhone, iPad, and HomePod.

Apple has not revealed how many sounds it has introduced, but most of the animals I asked about have been able to manage it (except for some mysterious ones that I’m not sure to have a real distinctive noise, such as an anteater).

At the moment, it seems that animals, vehicles, and musical instruments are limited to sounds.

Interestingly, for various breeds of dogs, it has samples, so you can hear what a mastiff sounds like compared to a Shih Tzu.

There are clearly quite a few things Siri doesn’t have sound samples for, and it doesn’t even try in certain instances (like when asked what humans sound like).

If you have children, who I’ve heard are always wondering what stuff sounds like the feature may also be useful. If someone in your family says that foxes sound like people crying, it’s also helpful, because you just need to know if they’re right.
