To win a 2-1 Premier League victory at Arsenal, Wolves recovered from the shock of a sick injury to top scorer Raul Jimenez.

After a fifth-minute clash of heads with David Luiz, Jimenez seemed to be knocked unconscious and required oxygen on the field for about 10 minutes of treatment before being rushed to the hospital.

Wolves reached the front through Pedro Neto in the absence of their highest scorer and though Gabriel momentarily headed Arsenal level, the visitors claimed a worthy three points through Daniel Podence’s superbly shot 42nd-minute winner.

With Arsenal languishing in 14th, the outcome pushes the Wolves to sixth in the league.

Wolves took a 27th-minute lead after the long wait and in the middle of a cloud of intense anxiety over Jimenez’s health.

As Leander Dendoncker’s header returned from the crossbar, Adama Traore got the better of Kieran Tierney down the Arsenal left and Neto was on hand to score.

With Gabriel driving home Willian’s cross from a well-worked short corner, the visitors’ lead did not last long.

When Wolves made it 2-1 – Podence deftly raising a bouncing ball over Gabriel and seeking an end after Bernd Leno saved Neto’s deflected shot with his knees, opportunism and poor Arsenal defending were again clear.

During the build-up, Traore was again influential and then slashed a stoppage-time attempt into the side netting.

After the break, the direct running of Wolves’ attackers started to cause Arsenal issues, and Hector Bellerin needed a last-ditch block to deny Podence with an hour to play.

Over the final 20 minutes, Wolves’ dominance seemed to promote sloppiness, with rewards given to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reiss Nelson.

Since the opening weekend of the season, Aubameyang has stayed in open play without a Premier League goal and headed wastefully over from Bellerin’s 82nd-minute delivery.
