According to club legend Gilberto Silva, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang requires help from Arsenal players to rediscover his goalscoring style.

In 10 Premier League games this season, the Arsenal ace has only scored two goals, with his last strike dating back to November 1, when he scored the match-winner in their 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

Last Sunday, in the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aubameyang fired blanks, dropping them down to 14th on the Premier League table with 13 points from 10 games.

Despite playing as a central striker, the Gabon star earned fewer passes from his teammates (8) against Wolves than goalkeeper Bernd Leno (9).

Silva thinks the 2015 Africa Footballer of the Year needs good service from his teammates ahead of the North London derby at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, to make chances easier for him in front of the net.

“There’s no doubt for me that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a fantastic player,” Silva told Ladbrokes. Since he joined the club, he has been so perfect for Arsenal.

He didn’t perform the way everyone expected in the last few games compared to last season. But it’s time for all of them to stick together to help the man.

Make it easier for him to live. Pass him the ball. He needs to be more involved in the game. Look for him, get him on the court, so he can meet one-on-one players.

“To work with, give him a nice ball. If you watched the last game against the Wolves, a lot of crosses were coming in for him, and it was difficult for him against the defense of the Wolves, where they were all very well placed.

“But if he can make his life easier for his teammates, then I have no doubt that he can have as great an impact as he did last season.”

Aubameyang did not have a fantastic start to the 2020-21 season having only scored a goal in the Premier League open play, which came on an opening day in their 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The 31-year-old hit 22 league goals in his first full season at the Emirates Stadium and shared the 2019-20 Golden Boot with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

He tried to win the award again last season, but after scoring 22 goals in 36 Premier League games, he narrowly missed out on a goal.
