Arsenal looks set to finally complete the signing of Omar Rekik, the center-back of Hertha Berlin, who jetted in to London on Thursday in the middle of a move to The Emirates.

On deadline day in the summer and autumn transfer window, the Gunners agreed on a £900,000 fee with Hertha for Rekik, 18, with Matteo Guendouzi heading in the opposite direction on loan.

In the end, they ran out of time to get the deal over the line, which meant that the teenage defender was forced to stay with the Bundesliga team until at least January.

But now Rekik has dropped a big hint that he is ready to join the side of Mikel Arteta, posting an Instagram image that showed him touching down on Thursday in London.

Nonetheless, if he signs for the club, Arsenal fans do not hope to see him in the first-team action anytime soon.

The star of Tunisia is seen as a hope for the future and is unlikely to be involved upon arrival with the senior squad.

Football.london has previously confirmed that Rekik had promised daily first-team training to academy manager Per Mertesacker, but game time is not guaranteed.

After the £27 million defender returned from his loan spell at St-Etienne in the summer, Arteta is still struggling to incorporate William Saliba into his side this season.

Thus, when the January transfer window opens, Saliba, 19, is likely to be sent out on loan.

Rekik, who, despite being included in the squad three times last season, has yet to make a senior appearance for Hertha, could also be loaned out if, as expected, he becomes an Arsenal player.

Before joining older brother Karim at Hertha, he was previously on the books of Manchester City, Feyenoord, PSV and Marseille – while his sibling has since departed for Seville.

In European football, the youngster is highly regarded and reportedly received a range of offers from abroad, but Arsenal appears to be in pole position to take him away from Germany next month.

Arsenal’s only signing in January is unlikely to be Rekik, as Arteta is forced to reinforce his first-team squad after the club’s worst start to a top-flight season since 1974/75.
