Before he exits to join Fenerbahce, Arsenal would have to pay Mesut Ozil a ton.
In recent months, the German playmaker has fallen to the bottom of Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and was left out of both their Premier League and Europa League playing squads.
After eight years in north London, the 32-year-old, who was a fan favorite during Arsene Wenger’s tenure, looks set to depart, during which time he has scored 77 goals in 254 appearances.
Although he appears very unlikely to add to that tally, his salaries are not completely paid yet.

RT journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu estimated that a staggering £ 7.2m from his most recent contract is owed to Ozil.
His £ 350,000-a-week contract, which is due to expire in the summer, is the explanation for the total charge.
He adds that terms with Fenerbahce are currently under consideration, with Ozil having family ties to Turkey.
It is likely that if he joins Fenerbahce this month, Arsenal will have to come to a mammoth financial arrangement with the winner of the World Cup.
This week, Arteta said of the player: “We will discuss it internally, with the player and the agent, what the best situation for him in the near future is, and try to find the best solution for everyone.”
“We will decide what is happening in the next few days.”
We have to make a choice before adding his exclusion from their Premier League playing squad: “We have a decision.”
“I had a choice to make. I made it. I knew the repercussions of that.
“And now in January we’re going to have to make another one, and we’re going to put in the balance of the best thing for the club, the best thing for the team, the player’s intention, and try to find the right solution.”
While Ozil has been training with the first-team, for personal reasons, he was recently given time off.
