According to Dani Ceballos, who praised the Gunners boss for bringing about l “radical change” at Emirates Stadium,  says Arsenal “were almost dead” before Mikel Arteta’s arrival.

Following a seven-match winless streak in November 2019, Unai Emery was sacked after 18 months in charge at Arsenal.

Interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg was unable to remain on the ship, and the Gunners’ 2019-20 campaign was in tatters by the time Arteta was named five days from Christmas day.

Arteta, however, immediately set about stamping his own mark on a squad struggling for confidence, introducing the same football style that had garnered so much success for Manchester City during his three-year tenure as assistant to Pep Guardiola.

After a dramatic run that included impressive wins over Leicester, City and Chelsea, Arsenal rescued an eighth-place Premier League finish at the end, and also got their hands on the FA Cup.

As fans would have hoped in the early stages of the new season, the Gunners have not kicked on but Ceballos has little doubt that Arteta is the right man to carry the club forward after seeing the impact he has had over the past 11 months in north London.

The squad was almost dead – but we won the FA Cup and the Community Shield after Arteta’s arrival,” the 24-year-old told The Sun.”

It’s not even a year after he joined, and he’s changed the club drastically.

He’s the club’s spirit, and he’s fortunate that the players are 100% trust in him.

“Arsenal need him, partly because most of the time he takes the initiative.”

Ceballos, who is currently on loan from Real Madrid to Arsenal, went on to insist that qualifying for the Champions League is still a reasonable target for the team ahead of Sunday’s critical meeting with Wolves at the Emirates.

He added, “Arsenal have to fight to be in the top four.”

But before five teams were struggling to make it to the Champions League, there are now six or seven.

“All you have to do is look at Manchester City, one of England’s best teams, or Manchester United. At the top of the table, they don’t get up.

Southampton and Aston Villa, who fought not to be relegated last year, took everybody by surprise.

It’s a really competitive league, and everybody can beat anybody. But there will come our time.
