As part of an ongoing investigation into the killing of a top Iraqi paramilitary leader, a Baghdad court has released a warrant of arrest of US President Donald Trump.

In the same U.S. drone strike that also killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport on January 3, 2020, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of Iraq’s predominantly pro-Iranian Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary network, died.

The drone killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad.

Trump, who later said that he had taken out “two (men) for the price of one,” ordered the assault on their motorcade.

The twin killings were described as “arbitrary” and “illegal” by Agnes Callamard, the UN special rapporteur for an extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions.

The East Baghdad court issued a warrant for the arrest of Trump pursuant to Article 406 of the Criminal Code, which allows for the death penalty in all premeditated murder cases, the judiciary said.

The court said, “The warrant was made after the judge recorded the statements of the Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis family’s personal claimants.”

It added that the initial investigation had been concluded, but “investigations continue to unmask the other culprits, whether Iraqis or foreigners, in this crime.”
