Barcelona, after Lionel Messi paid tribute to the late Diego Maradona, will be fined £ 2,700.

On Sunday, Messi, 33, celebrated a successful strike against Osasuna by taking off his home shirt to unveil a 1993 Newell’s Old Boys top in tribute to his hero, who passed away last week at the age of 60.

At the end of his career, Maradona starred for the Argentinian team, while Messi featured for the club when he was 13.

But after breaking the Royal Spanish Football Federation rules on celebrations, Barcelona was slapped with a bill of € 3,000 (£ 2,700).

Players are not allowed under the regulations to raise their shirts to display advertising, slogans or any sort of message.

Messi shared a snapshot of his Nou Camp tribute after the game alongside an older shot of Maradona wearing a Newell’s jersey.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman, speaking after the 4-0 victory, said “It was a great moment.”

First, for the goal, Leo had scored, and then for the gesture, he had made towards Diego Maradona’s death.

“He had surely been thinking of what he would do For me, it was a great moment in every way.”

On the evening of his death last week, Messi also paid tribute to Maradona.
