In a low-key international friendly in Leuven, two goals from striker Michy Batshuayi earned Belgium victory over Switzerland.

As the number one FIFA-ranked team in the world, Michy Batshuayi scored twice for Belgium to secure a 2-1 win over Switzerland in a low-key international friendly.

Early on at the Den Dreef Stadion in Leuven, Admir Mehmedi gave the Swiss the lead with a crisp low finish past Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

After an intelligent pass from Youri Tielemans, Batshuayi equalised for Belgium four minutes into the second half with an angled finish.

The 27-year-old striker then brought his tally for Belgium to 21 goals, scoring his second of the game with a close-range shot on the turn to seal victory with 20 minutes remaining.

In the first half, Belgium struggled to find its rhythm because, over a dismal 45 minutes, they failed to record a single effort on goal, and Switzerland capitalized.

Sebastiaan Bornauw unintentionally headed back a long punt forward, allowing Mehmedi to break clear and the Wolfsburg forward elegantly struck a left-footed shot across the goal into the corner of the net.

On the half-hour, Mignolet ‘s goal was again under threat and he used his body to good effect at the near post to keep out the close-range effort of Mehmedi.

On the stroke of half-time, Belgium flickered into life as Dennis Praet teased a cross into the penalty area, but Switzerland goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo beat the ball away firmly.

The effort of Batshuayi was his first goal attempt, and Belgium’s first goal and striker effort, on loan to Chelsea’s Crystal Palace, scored again with their second on both fronts.

Before he hooked the ball home, the forward superbly managed a difficult cross from substitute Thomas Foket inside the area.

In the remainder of the game, Switzerland had their moments but could not find an equaliser as the side of Roberto Martinez kept on for an underwhelming win.
