Boko Haram abducts 35 passengers on Damaturu-Maiduguri road


Boko Haram insurgents reportedly kidnapped 35 commuters traveling along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road on Friday, December 18.

The Cable claimed that the insurgents turned up in military uniforms, mounted a roadblock with five Hilux vans on the highway before assaulting and taking away a large convoy of commuters near Garin Kuturu in Jakana at around 5 pm.

The publication from a military source;

First, the passengers saw a burning fire, but they assumed it was a bush burning, not knowing that the Dangote truck driver had already been ambushed and set on fire.

But as they approached the scene, they saw the insurgents storming at them on trucks fitted with heavy guns, and the insurgents had already caught up with them before turning their vehicles to fly.

Many of the passengers have fled to the bush, 35 have been kidnapped, two private cars and one lorry have been set on fire. Nine of the abducted passengers’ cars were also abandoned at the scene while their assets were stolen.

A senior police officer from the Maiduguri Crack squad, who preferred anonymity, said that 10 passengers were rescued while those who were injured were taken for treatment to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital.
