Boko Haram is severely degraded and are only capable of targeting defenseless civilians – Lai Mohammed says

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Media and Culture, has declined to say that Nigeria is at the hands of Boko Haram because the ability to buy weapons has been rejected.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday 1 December, the Minster reported that Boko Haram is severely damaged and can only carry out cowardly attacks over the weekend in Borno county, such as the one against defenseless farmers.

“terrorism is a global problem that requires collaborative efforts among nations to combat. I said Nigeria needs the support of global partners, especially in the area of acquisition of effective platforms to deal with the terrorists.”

He said;

I want to say that the killing of farmers in Borno is an act of cowardice and savagery by a group of deranged terrorists and that it is an act of cowardice and savagery by a group of deranged terrorists.

It does not represent the military’s success against Boko Haram.

In order to remain important, the modus operandi of a losing terror organization is to go after soft targets. Boko Haram is not the only one who does that. In 2019, Al-Shabab targeted Nairobi, Kenya’s DusitD2 Complex, killing more than 20 people.

Similarly, the Peshawar school massacre of six gunmen associated with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in Pakistan on 16 December 2014 leftover 150 people dead, most of them students.

The truth is that Boko Haram is badly degraded and can only carry out over the weekend, cowardly attacks such as that against defenseless farmers.

On saying that Nigeria is at the mercy of Boko Haram, Lai Mohammed said;

This is sheer manufacturing and the exploitation of a method. While in Makurdi, Benue State, on an official visit, journalists asked me to comment on the weekend killing of farmers in Borno State.

I have said that terrorism is a global issue that needs concerted cooperation between nations to fight it. I have indicated that Nigeria needs the assistance of global partners, in particular in the field of the acquisition of successful terrorist platforms.

I remembered that some of Nigeria’s channels ordered and paid for have not yet been supplied to date, thus undermining the war on terror.

It is disconcerting how these comments equate to Nigeria being at the hands of Boko Haram, which may have come only from twisted minds who are more interested in drawing visitors to their websites than preserving the facts. Does anybody ever suspect that there is anything urgent that needs to be done to reign in social media abuse?
