Over 30 houses were burned down and farm products destroyed when Wamdeo village in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno state was attacked on Tuesday night by alleged Boko Haram insurgents, residents said.

Around 6:30 pm, the assault on the village of Wamdeo began and lasted for about two hours.

The citizens who spoke to the Daily Trust expressed outrage at the extent of the attackers’ atrocities.

Shops on the market square, houses, and places of worship were some of the buildings torched by the insurgents after looting them.

As a result of intermittent shooting by the attackers, the Daily Trust reported that hundreds of civilians fled into bushes for security.

Steve Mamza, a hunter who is also a community member, revealed that they returned on Wednesday morning to count their losses.

We thank Almighty God that no life has been lost, but as for our property, Boko Haram burned down more than 30 buildings last night.

Everything that our people have laboured for has been lost.

We do not know why we have always been attacked; our entire harvest has been lost. It is sad,’ lamented Mamza.

A military source reported that, after leaving Wamdwo village, some of the attackers were killed in Chul village.
