Borno Massacre: President Buhari Gives Marching Order To Nigeria Army To Take Fight To The Insurgents

Buhari Visits Troops For Nigeria

Two days after the killing of 43 farmers by Boko Haram terrorists in the Zabarmari region of Borno State, President Muhammad Buhari issued a marching order to the military to take up the war against the insurgents.

This was announced in a series of tweets on Monday by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Communications and Publicity.

“As we mourn all the lives lost in Zabarmari, the Armed Forces have been given the marching order to take the fight to the insurgents, not on a one-off, but on a continuous basis, until we root out the terrorists,” the tweet read.

“Nothing is more important than ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians. Everything is secondary when security is at stake. I will ensure that more resources are made available to the military and other security agencies to prosecute the war against terrorism.”

Many, including the United Nations and the United States, have condemned the recent attack, calling for the immediate release of those kidnapped in the incident.

According to a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Edward Kallon, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, said that at least 110 people were ruthlessly killed and several others injured.

We have also received reports that there may have been abductions of several women. The UN Resident Coordinator said, “I call for their immediate release and return to safety.”

This event is this year’s most brutal overt assault on innocent people. I petition to bring to justice the perpetrators of this horrific and senseless crime.

Such overt threats on ordinary citizens, Kallon also said, jeopardize the capacity of the most marginalized people to endure the adversity they encounter that the UN is trying to mitigate.

For his part, Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, asked the Federal Government to recruit mercenaries to help fight the fight against the insurgency.

When receiving the Federal Government delegation over the gruesome murder of the farmers in his province, he made the call at the Government House in Maiduguri.
