Former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate Peter Obi has said that by the end of 2020, Nigeria will have 110 million poor people.
Speaking at a PDP Southeast Summit on Friday, December 11 ahead of the 2023 general elections in Anambra, Obi averred that Nigeria was drifting and collapsing.
He added that eight million out of the 11 million that would be added to the already existing 100 million poor Nigerians are young people.
It’s crumbling, the country is drifting. And if there is nothing you do it will set its vengeance upon you.
The World Bank has published a report, so go and read the report. 11 million Nigerians will fall into poverty this year alone.
The 11 million is on top of the 100 million already in existence. That means Nigeria will have over 110 million people living in poverty by the end of this year. It is important to note that eight million of the 11 million people falling into poverty are young people.
