Caf president Ahmad released from hospital after recovering from Corona virus

After a time of confinement and observation, the 60-year-old football boss was cleared of getting the virus.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced that after recovering from the coronavirus, President Ahmad Ahmad was released from the hospital.

After displaying mild flu symptoms following his return from Morocco, Ahmad tested positive for the virus on October 30, where he graced the Confederation Cup final between RS Berkane and Pyramids.

 

As a result, he was quarantined at the International Hospital of AS Salam in Cairo. And he was discharged on Wednesday, November 11, having been cleared of the virus.

“On 30 October, the President of the Confederation of African Football, Mr Ahmad Ahmad, tested Covid19 positively. After a time of isolation and observation at the AS Salam International Hospital in Cairo (Egypt), he was allowed by doctors to leave this morning, 11 November, “Caf’s statement read.”

The President of the Confederation of African Football left the hospital to return to his home in Cairo (Egypt), now no longer infectious, and with limited risk of complications.

At least 20 days of convalescence have been recommended by physicians, during which he will have to limit his efforts in order to completely regain his energy.

“President Ahmad would like to thank all the medical staff of AS Salam International Hospital in Cairo personally and sincerely for their support over the last 12 days.”

In the meantime, though announcing that he will leave for his native country Madagascar to complete his recovery, the 60-year-old reported a negative Covid-19 test result.

Ahmad has announced his intention to run for a second term as president of the Caf, with the election scheduled to take place on 12 March in Morocco next year at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
