Chelsea midfielder, Havertz to miss UCL clash with Rennes after positive Covid-19 test

After Frank Lampard has confirmed that he has contracted coronavirus, the 21-year-old is headed for a spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reported that Covid-19 has been tested positive by midfielder Kai Havertz.

As a result, the foreign German has entered self-isolation and was left out of Chelsea’s squad on Wednesday for their Champions League clash with Rennes.

On Saturday, Havertz will also skip Chelsea’s match against Sheffield United, although he also looks likely to miss out on the forthcoming German trio of matches.

For an initial fee of £ 70 million ($104 m) in the summer transfer window, Havertz transferred to the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen.

While in his first 10 games for the Blues, he managed four goals and three assists, Havertz came in for some criticism over a perceived lack of influence in the final third. The Chelsea striker said ahead of the match against Rennes, “I know Kai very well and I think he’s one of the most talented players in the whole world.”

“He is very talented and feels good. He’s going to get better and better, he’s come to a new world, language and football style like me and he has to learn, but he plays very good until now and we’re going to see a lot of good games from him.”
