After picking up a knock, the star attacker missed the last 15 minutes of the Serie A match.
Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo reported that in the 1-1 draw with Lazio on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo sustained an ankle injury.
In a clash with Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto, the Portugal star, who gave his side the lead at the Stadio Olimpico in the first half, picked up a knock and was replaced by Paulo Dybala in the game’s 76th minute.
Pirlo was unable to provide any information on the seriousness of the injury but told DAZN: “Not only for us, but for all the teams he played for, Ronaldo is a crucial player. Unfortunately, he had an ankle issue and was forced to leave the field.”
Until deep into the second-half stoppage time, the reigning Italian champions kept on to their advantage, when Joaquin Correa laid it off for replacement Felipe Caicedo to smash into the bottom corner and gain a home side point.
Pirlo was happy with the overall success of his side, but cautioned that such slip-ups could cost them the title of Serie A.
They never fired us on target, there were no signals, but we have to take care of every little detail, “said the former midfielder.” We had a good match. In the last 10 seconds, we didn’t handle the ball. Unfortunately, we’re satisfied with the game, not with the result.
First of all, the head is coming, now all the boys have offered their best, shown that they can play these matches. You’ve got poor performances if you head on to the pitch with a pessimistic attitude.
In order to produce the definitive results, we have skipped the malice. They see the answers when they do things as they did today.
We always work for change, bringing new ideas into every game. [Federico] Chiesa was unable to play today, [Giorgio] Chiellini was hurt and Alex Sandro and [Matthijs] de Ligt were out, but we can’t use these as excuses.
Pirlo ‘s men are now three points behind Serie A champion AC Milan, hosting Sunday night’s Hellas Verona at San Siro. Meanwhile, Lazio is ninth in the table and five points behind the Rossoneri.
