It has been confirmed that the female tourist attacked by a crocodile at Ave Dakpa in the Volta Region’s Akatsi North District suffered a minor injury and is currently doing well.

She was sent to the hospital, treated and released on the same day.

Meanwhile, inquiries into the crocodile assault on tourists have been launched by the Akatsi North District Assembly, reports Mary Anane-Amponsah of Graphic Online from Ave Dakpa in the Volta Region.

In charge of the Ave Dakpa crocodile pond, the Akatsi North District Assembly said it was investigating the circumstances that led to a crocodile attack on some tourists during a visit to the area.

“Dr. Prince Amuzu, District Chief Executive for the region, told Mary Anane-Amponsah of Graphic Online, “We were alarmed to see the video and wondered when it happened.

“But after our inquiries, we found that the incident occurred before the festive period of [Christmas and New Year] and fortunately the victim did not sustain any serious injury,” he said.

He added that the disturbing nature of the video prompted the assembly to begin to examine how and why it occurred.

Due to the immense concern posed by the public, he said that the assembly will release a statement to clarify to the public the specifics of the incident.

A female tourist who’d been part of a group that visited the place was attacked by a crocodile in the said video that went viral when they gathered around it and tried to pose for a photo.

From the video, the fast assault on the female tourist by the crocodile resulted in other tourists taking to their heels.

There is the assumption that the victim may have had an arm or hand bitten off or suffered severe injuries, since the video is incomplete.

The DCE said, however, that the woman who was sent to the clinic for medical care has since been treated and discharged.

“She had not yet been admitted. “That was a minor injury and she’s all right,” he said.

According to him, to facilitate further inquiries, they were also following up on people who were at the scene.

Since the site was opened to the public as a tourist site, Dr. Amuzu said it was a very secure place one might visit.

We spent a lot on setting up this project and thus the protection of visitors and tourists was important to us and would therefore not jeopardize that,” he added.”
