Tottenham stretched their unbeaten run to 10 matches, but at Crystal Palace, they had to settle for a point.

The late strike of Jeffrey Schlupp saved a deserved 1-1 derby draw for Crystal Palace and stopped Tottenham from going clear at the top of the Premier League by three points.

The howler of Vicente Guaita gave Harry Kane a 15th season goal midway through the first half to silence the 2,000 fans allowed on Sunday to return to Selhurst Park.

Schlupp saved his goalkeeper’s blushes nine minutes from time, however, prodding in from close range when Hugo Lloris struggled to cope with Eberechi Eze’s tempting free-kick.

In the first half, Eze struck the post, and Guaita, who had made a series of fine saves, was almost humiliated again as a Ben Davies cross looped over him and hit the crossbar.

Neither side will force a winner, and while Tottenham are now unbeaten in 10 games, Liverpool could replace them at the top of the table with a win at Fulham later on Sunday, who will play next Wednesday.

Spurs began with a swagger and Guaita made a great reflex save to keep the first-time strike by Tanguy Ndombele out.

Guaita was left red-faced 23 minutes in, however when Kane’s right-foot shot from about 30 yards out, which he could only palm into the net, was completely misjudged.

Before Palace finished the first half strongly, the Palace keeper responded well by making a fine double save – the second from Ndombele – before Eze hit the far post with a calculated effort from just inside the Spurs penalty area.

After Luka Milivojevic’s free-kick created havoc in the Tottenham penalty area, Schlupp missed a golden chance to equalise when he blazed over from close range.

When Christian Benteke headed to the roof of the net, Spurs gave nothing going forward in the second half and were relieved, but Schlupp scrambled home after Lloris was undone by Eze’s in-swinging free-kick.

When his cross hit the bar, Davies could have won it in weird fashion and Guaita responded well again to a lapse with a fast reflex save when Kane got his head on Serge Aurier’s shot.

In a dramatic finale, Guaita then superbly saved Eric Dier’s free-kick as both sides had to settle for a point.
