Daily Telegraph Founder, David Barclay is dead

David Barclay died at the age of 86, the British billionaire who owned The Daily Telegraph newspaper and The Ritz hotel.

He died after a brief illness on Sunday, his newspaper announced on Wednesday, Jan 13.

From shipping to retail, Barclay and his twin Frederick, described as “identical in appearance, lifestyle and often even in dress” established a vast business empire.

Throughout their active business career, the Barclay brothers worked as one while doing their utmost to avoid personal publicity and discourage media scrutiny,” the broadsheet added.

A former employee, Minister Boris Johnson, is among those paying tribute to David Barclay.

Boris Johnson tweeted, “Farewell with respect and admiration to Sir David Barclay, who rescued a great newspaper, created many thousands of jobs across the UK, and who believed passionately in this country’s independence and what it could accomplish.”

David Barclay, who passed away on Sunday, January 10, got married twice, leaving four sons behind.
