DELSU final year law student drowns two weeks before graduation in a hotel swimming pool


In a hotel swimming pool, a final year law student from the Delta State University (DELSU) Oleh campus, named as Tenumah Jeffery Omatseyi, drowned.

The incident was confirmed to have taken place on Friday, November 6, at the Graceland Hotel in Irri, Isoko South State Local Government District.


The deceased who hailed from Warri, was set to graduate in two weeks.

Confirming the incident, Innocent, President of the Government of the Student Union of DELSU Oleh campus, ordered an investigation into the death of his colleague, adding that hotel management and police statements are contradictory.

“We want to know how our colleague died. In a few weeks ‘ time, Jeffery is going to graduate, but in a hotel swimming pool he unexpectedly lost his life. All students should stay away from that hotel,” he said.

State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who reported the incident on Monday, November 9, said the student had been rushed to the hospital where a doctor had confirmed his death.

“Yes, at the swimming pool, a young boy, who they later found to be a student, died. They said he came to swim and accidentally drowned in the pool. By the time he was rushed to a hospital, he was confirmed dead by the doctor,” the PPRO said.

A few months ago, on the Law Facebook page, the deceased who actively participated in the nationwide # EndSARS protest posted a story about how he made a promise to his twin sister to get his LL.B certificate home.

But I had a dream like Martin Luther King, and that dream was to study mass communication after high school. This was motivated by the desire to go to Lagos and enter the entertainment industry, “he wrote. This was driven by the desire to go to Lagos and enter the entertainment industry.”

“My dream was not mine alone, as my twin sister also wanted to pursue law, but that dream eluded her for some human unexpected emergencies. I made a promise to her, who for 9 months shared the same room with me that I would bring the LL.B certificate she has always wanted home. And if it is possible, she will have her name listed as the holder.”
