Disney has announced that “T’Challa,” the role played in the hit movie “Black Panther” by the late Chadwick Boseman in 2018, will not be recast in Black Panther 2 as a sign of respect for the late star.

Boseman died on August 22, 2020, after fighting colon cancer secretly. He was married but didn’t have any children.

In 2018’s “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” and 2019’s “Avengers” Endgame, Boseman is best known for playing T’Challa/Black Panther.

“Black Panther” became the first superhero movie at the Academy Awards to be nominated for best picture. Worldwide, it grossed more than $1.3 billion.

The superhero movie is now going to go ahead without the character T’Challa.

Disney’s Marvel Studios tweeted, “Black Panther 2, opening July 8, 2022, is being written & directed by Ryan Coogler.”

“Honoring T’Challa’s legacy & portrayal by Chadwick Boseman, @MarvelStudios will not recast the character, but will explore Wakanda’s world & the rich characters introduced in the first film.”
