On Thursday, a judge in Michigan threw out a complaint filed by the U.S. In the hope of stopping voting-counting in the swing state, President Donald Trump’s campaign.

In Michigan, which Trump, a Republican, carried in 2016, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is the predicted winner.

During a court hearing on Thursday, Michigan Court of Claims Judge Cynthia Stephens made the decision. She said on Friday she intended to issue a written ruling.

Trump campaign officials also said that they have filed a complaint to stop counting in Michigan and obtain further access to the tabulation process. A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign didn’t respond immediately to requests for comment.

The lawsuit was a “messaging exercise,” said Bob Bauer, Biden’s campaign senior advisor.

Bauer said in a call to Reuter’s reporters, “It serves no other intention but to confuse the public about what’s going on and help their false allegations of irregularity.”

Nationally, in an extraordinarily tight U.S. election hinging on razor-thin margins in a handful of states, Biden inched closer to victory on Thursday.

A flurry of litigation has been initiated by Trump around the world.

A judge in Georgia rejected a request by his campaign for an order forcing Chatham County to isolate and secure late-arriving ballots in another defeat for Trump on Thursday to ensure that they are not counted.

Trump campaign lawyers in Michigan sought an order ordering State Secretary Jocelyn Benson to include “meaningful access” to the counting of ballots for campaign poll watchers, plus access to surveillance videotapes of ballot drop boxes.

It was local election officials, Judge Stephens said, who were mainly able to provide the relief demanded by the campaign.

The relief that is being sought is largely inaccessible via the Secretary of State, “said Stephens.”

There was “no reason for finding that there is a reasonable probability of success on the merits,” the judge said, with respect to the request for access to videotapes.
