Donald Trump reverses plans to offer Covid vaccine to White House officials before elderly and health workers

US President Donald Trump has changed his initial plans to offer the newly approved covid-19 vaccine to senior administration officials as early as this week.

On Sunday, the US announced another 1,389 deaths from Covid-19 and on Monday morning, December 14, 2020, the US death toll stood at 298,939, out of a caseload of 16,241,866, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Over the weekend, the first shipments of the Pfizer vaccine were flown out across the nation and senior administration staff announced last week that they would be among those first vaccinated, drawing widespread criticism from Democrats who believe that the aged and medical service staff should be vaccinated first.

Earlier on Sunday, officials said that doses of the vaccine will be made available to all who work in close quarters with leaders of the nation to avoid the spread of Covid-19 in the White House and other vital facilities.

“In accordance with the continuity of government protocols established in executive policy, senior officials across all three branches of government will receive vaccinations,” said John Ullyot, spokesman for the National Security Council.

“On the advice of public health professionals and national security leadership, the American people should have confidence that they are receiving the same safe and effective vaccine as senior officials of the United States government.”

“On Monday, December 14, Donald Trump rowed back, tweeting: “The vaccine should be provided to people working in the White House much later in the program unless strictly required. I called for this change to be made.’

Trump said, “I am not scheduled to take the vaccine, but I look forward to doing so at the right time.”
