After their car crushed five kids to death in Ebonyi, angry mob lynched the owner and conductor of a water truck.
Ebonyi State Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the development on Thursday, November 5, said the incident occurred on Monday, November 2, at Onu Nworiegu in Oshiri, Onicha State Local Government Area.
“The DPO of Onicha was informed on Monday via a distress call that an accident occurred killing five school children and angry youths attacked the driver and killed him. The driver, Ewa Innocent, is from Ameka Ikwo, while Iyiemgu Izzi, the conductor, Ojim Danis, is from Agharazo,” Odah said in a statement.
The water truck was allegedly owned by a company known as the Nigeria Limited C-Sagas project. When the truck ran over them on the road, the children from Amaokpara village in Oshiri were said to be returning home from St. Michaels school.
The driver fled immediately after the crash, but youths from the region pursued and caught up with the truck in the neighboring village of Onicha Igbeze, and had him and his conductor lynched.
Odah said the kids, the bus driver and the driver were confirmed dead by a hospital doctor. At Onicha General Hospital, their corpses were retrieved and deposited.
During the Ember months, Odah urged motorists to drive more carefully.
The CP mourns the family and commiserates with them. Since this is an ember month, I want to warn road users to drive with caution. This year, we have lost a lot, “she said.
