As the best player aged 21 or under from a top-tier league in Europe, the Norwegian graced Tuttosport’s front page on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund player Erling Haaland, named the 2020 Golden Boy winner, has been honored for his stunning exploits.

The trophy, sponsored by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport and won last year by Joao Felix, is awarded to the best player in the top-tier league in Europe, aged 21 or under.

And Norway’s top challenger, Haaland, graced Tuttosport’s front page on Saturday, beating the likes of Dortmund team-mate Jadon Sancho, Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood and Ansu Fati’s Barcelona sensation to the honor.

After a mid-season move from Austrian champions Salzburg to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, Haaland scored 44 goals in all competitions in 2019-20, 16 of those coming in 18 games.

Only Bayern hero Robert Lewandowski (81.2) had a better minutes-per-goal record than Haaland (81.7) for all Bundesliga players who scored at least 10 goals last season.

Haaland has six goals for last season’s runners-up Dortmund this term in as many Bundesliga games.

In three Champions League fixtures in 2020-21, the 20-year-old has hit the back of the net four times, bringing his tally to 11 goals from 11 matches across all competitions.

Amid reported interest from the likes of LaLiga champions Real Madrid and Premier League giants United, Haaland appears to be associated with a blockbuster move from Dortmund.

But his father Alf-Inge Haaland told SPORT1 during the week: “When you play well, it’s only logical that big clubs knock on your door, but we’re talking about speculation here.

“At the moment it’s not in Erling’s or my head that another club will be vying for him. We signed a long contract with Dortmund and they have a fantastic team for Erling right now. We don’t want to look any further ahead.”

“Asked if a move could result in the close season, he added: “You never know what’s going to happen. We haven’t thought about such a change yet. I think with Dortmund he would like to win some trophies. That’s his dream. In Germany, Erling will still accomplish a lot and make great strides. Moving abroad is not a concern for us.

In every league, I sometimes think he needs to and should show himself. He’s comfortable in the Bundesliga at the moment and he’s concentrating on Dortmund. He just wants to be a better player and doesn’t look too far ahead.”
