The Estonian Far-Right Secretary has resigned following his remarks on US President-elect Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
In a Sunday radio interview, Interior Minister Mart Helme called the “corrupt characters” of the father and son. His son, Martin Helme, said that the victory of Biden in the U.S. presidential election was rigged.
The minister said he felt that “there is no doubt that these (US) elections have been falsified.”
“If this (US election outcome) goes through, then in America the constitution will no longer apply,” he said.
On Monday, stepping back from his role, Mr Helme said: “I decided last night to resign (when) looking at the Estonian media’s slander and lies.”
“Mr. Helme, a member of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE), added:” I ‘m tired. I didn’t do something yesterday that would threaten the safety of Estonia. I haven’t said something that the American media, the American free media, has not already said.
He continued, speaking at a press conference on Monday: “You can’t muzzle me, nobody can muzzle me.” The prime minister can’t muzzle me, the president or the reporters can’t muzzle me.
“What I consider to be right, I say, what concerns me.”
Since then, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has denounced the remarks made by Mart Helme and his son, saying that they were a “verbal assault … an attack on Estonian democracy and security,” adding that she was “sad and embarrassed.”
