According to Goal, In the first knockout phase of Europe’s second-tier competition, the Premier League clubs were handed, difficult opponents.
In the Europa League round of 32, Manchester United was given a tie against Real Sociedad, while Benfica was landed by Arsenal, and Wolfsberger will face Tottenham.
After slipping into Europe’s second-tier competition following their Champions League exit, United will fly to Anoeta to face current La Liga leaders Real Sociedad.
Last season, the Red Devils made it through to the semi-finals only to be defeated by Seville’s eventual champions, and are among the favorites to win the trophy again come May but Sociedad is likely to provide their credentials with a stern examination.
A tough draw against Portuguese giants Benfica, who are currently second in the Primeira Liga, has also been granted to Arsenal. As they take on Jorge Jesus’ side, the Gunners will be defending a 100 percent record, having won all six of their matches in Group B.
Meanwhile, two-time Europa League champion Jose Mourinho’s attempt to deliver Tottenham’s long-awaited silverware will begin at Wolfsberger, one of the tournament’s surprise packages to date.
Elsewhere, Leicester, the last Premier League club in the draw, will tackle Slavia Prague’s Czech Republic outfit and Steven Gerrard’s Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers will tackle Royal Antwerp’s Belgian side.
AC Milan will look to continue their good start to the season against Red Star Belgrade, while Lille’s Ligue 1 high-flyers are scheduled to take on Ajax, with six additional teams joining the Dutch giants and United crashing out of the Champions League.
Napoli have been pitted against Granada, Dynamo Kiev and Club Brugge have been drawn against each other, Shakhtar Donetsk is expected to play Maccabi Tel Aviv, Dinamo Zagreb will face Krasnodar, PSV will be tackled by Olympiacos and Villarreal has been landed by Red Bull Salzburg.
The three ties completing the final draw for the first knockout stage include the clash between Molde and Hoffenheim, the war between Braga and Roma, and the meeting between Young Boys and Bayer Leverkusen.
