Fabrizio Soccorsi, personal doctor of Pope Francis has died from Coronavirus complications

The Catholic News Agency announced that on December 26, the 78-year-old doctor had been admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for a previous health problem.

When coping with “oncological pathology,” the cause of death was COVID, published L’Osservatore Romano in the Vatican newspaper.

In August 2015, after not renewing the term of papal doctor Patrizio Polisca, who was also head of Vatican health services, Pope Francis appointed him his personal physician.

The two positions had been linked together since the pontificate of St. Pope John Paul II, but Pope Francis diverged from this tradition by selecting Soccorsi, a doctor from outside the Vatican.

The Pope recently announced that it was within Catholic orthodoxy and, indeed, ethical responsibility to undergo COVID vaccination and said that he would receive his first dose shortly.

The Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said in a statement approved by Francis in December, “It is morally appropriate to receive Covid 19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their testing and development process.”
