First Lady Aisha Buhari has been in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, since September, after the wedding of her daughter, Hanan, and therefore has not been involved in any government action, gathered by SaharaReporters.
SaharaReporters concluded that despite spending over three months, the First Lady is not in a rush to return, as she reportedly claimed that the Aso Rock Villa was not safe for her family.
This concern was triggered by a shooting incident that took place in June and caused some panic among the Aso Villa’s occupants.
After security details of the President’s wife removed Buhari’s Personal Assistant, Sabiu’ Tunde ‘Yusuf, from the place after he declined to embark on a 14-day isolation period upon returning from a trip to Lagos, SaharaReporters announced that there was a crisis in Aso Villa.
Shortly thereafter, in an effort to arrest Yusuf, the First Lady’s ADC, Usman Shugaba, allegedly fired gunshots, but the President’s aide fled to Mamman Daura’s residence where he spent the night.
In collusion with Buhari’s chief security officer, Yusuf soon ordered the arrest of Aisha’s ADC and other security information. Within the Presidential Villa, Buhari ordered an investigation into the suspected security breach.
Aisha Buhari arranged a flamboyant wedding for President Muhammad Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, and Mohammed Turad, on September 4.
In addition to the opulence on show, event planners for the wedding were flown in to add colour and spice to the ceremony from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Earlier in August, under the guise of a medical emergency, the First Lady also traveled to Dubai on a private jet owned by billionaire Mohammed Indimi to shop for luxury items ahead of the wedding.
Most of the items were brought in from the Arabian country, including souvenirs used for the wedding occasion.
On Tuesday, a top source told SaharaReporters that the First Lady has now quietly moved to the UAE for over three months. Nobody knows when she’ll be back in the country.
Aisha Buhari has quietly moved to Dubai, the Presidency source said. Even before the daughter’s wedding, she went to the UAE.
She even stayed there for months prior to the wedding during the lockout, shopping, and relaxing. But after the end of the wedding, due to security issues at the villa, she has been hiding.
For the past three months, some Nigerians have noted her absence from public space. Checks on her Twitter profile show that she last tweeted in October.
SaharaReporters gathered that she often released statements announcing the distribution of palliatives, but at no official functions was ever seen.
The September wedding, which had security officials barring guests from taking pictures, saw event planners and other vendors flying in from Dubai pocketing large sums for their services in U.S. dollars.
