Garba Shehu apologizes for implying that only 10 schoolboys had been abducted in Katsina

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, apologized for claiming that only 10 students were abducted from Katsina State’s Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

Remember that this was said by the presidential spokesman in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service before the abducted schoolboys were released.

After the 344 schoolboys were released by the bandits in Zamfara County, Garba Shehu expressed an apology, saying that he was fooled by people who should know better. He added that in no way was the amount he put outdone to downplay the severity of the scenario.

He tweeted;

I apologize for the incorrect communication citing that only 10 students were kidnapped at the science school, Kankara

This communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know. These numbers were seen to conflict with what was available at that time.

Please understand that this communication was in no way done to downplay the seriousness of the situation.

Please accept my sincere apologies on this matter as we continue to move our great Nation Nigeria forward. Thank you.
