Governor Ganduje orders the shut down of schools in Kano

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered the closure, with immediate effect, of all public and private schools in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by Sanusi Kiru, State Commissioner for Education, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday morning to newsmen in Kano.

Although no reason for the closure of the schools was given, the closure may not be unrelated to an increase in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country, leading to the closure of schools in some states, including Kaduna and Jigawa.

The transfer may also not be unrelated to the recent abduction from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, of over 300 schoolboys.

Similarly, the Kano State Government ordered the immediate closure of all state institutions of public and private health training.

The health training institutions concerned include the School of Basic/Post Basic Nursing and Midwifery, the School of Health Technology and the School of Hygiene.

State Health Commissioner Dr Aminu Tsanyawa’s statement on Wednesday said the closure of the institutions was immediate.

Therefore the statement urged parents to unfailingly take their kids from their respective schools today.
