Governor Sanwo-Olu Scraps Pension For Tinubu, Fashola, Others

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of the State of Lagos, has declared his intention to abolish the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pensions Act 2007), which provides for the payment of pensions and other entitlements to the state’s former governors and their deputies.

This was revealed by Sanwo-Olu during the presentation of the 2021 budget before state lawmakers on Tuesday.

Sanwo-Olu, who said the bill would be submitted for legislative approval to the Lagos Assembly, emphasized that it would minimize the cost of government by abolishing pensions for former governors and deputies.

“Mr., Mr. In view of keeping the costs of governance low and signaling selflessness in the public service, Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, we will immediately send a draft Executive Bill to the House for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for the payment of pensions and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies,’ he said.
