Seconds before he plunged off the edge of a cliff to his death at Victoria Falls, a tourist was pictured.

Reportedly, Roy George Tinashe Dikinyay, 40, slipped on the rocks and plummeted about 350 feet into the world’s largest waterfall on New Year’s Day in front of his female friend.

According to local media sources, Mr Dikinyay’s body was fatally found three miles downstream in Zimbabwe after turning with his pal to take snaps of each other in the danger zone.

Newsday was told by another tourist: “We were alerted by the woman’s scream and she told us she had slipped and fallen.”

“Due to the extreme showers and the mist, we could not trace him after that, and that’s when we went to alert the parks officials.”

Rescue workers discovered the body of the man 24 hours after he slipped and vanished into the mist on Friday at 2.30pm.

Speaker Tinashe Farawo of the Zimbabwe National Parks announced that a search operation was initiated immediately after the 40-year-old went missing.

Mr. Farawo told Newsday, “The body was found, but we’re not getting it back.”

We are trying to devise ways to recover it. The area is slippery and there is water, so we enlisted the security services.

The nearby rocks, including those Mr Dikinyay walked on, have been especially slippery due to the current high water levels at Victoria Falls caused by heavy rain.

One of the seven wonders of the world, popular for the roaring sound of the water roaring down the cliff face, is believed to be the 2 km wide waterfall on the Zambezi River in southern Africa.

The falls were named by British explorer David Livingstone after the reigning Queen Victoria in 1855.

However, it is called Mosi-oa-Tunya in Zimbabwe, which translates as The Smoke That Thunders.
