Hungarian Artist Makes Steampunk Spiders from different mechanical components

Hungarian artist Peter Szucsy has a very odd and interesting hobby, assembling all sorts of mechanical parts into intricate steampunk spider sculptures from antique watches, cameras, and medical equipment.

As an art director, Peter Szucsy worked to create all sorts of virtual creatures and video game monsters, but one day he wanted to start taking some of these figments of his imagination to the real world as well.

He goes to a flea market near his home in Budapest every week where he searches for all sorts of antique mechanical components he can use to make his steampunk spider menagerie.

Szucsy wrote on his website: “I’ve made several animals, monsters, created many worlds in almost every design in the virtual world.” But I thought a couple of years ago that it was time to create something new. So… I left my computer and made the whole world come alive with lots of my thoughts.

The artist usually searches from old watches, cameras or medical equipment for antique mechanical parts, which he then pieces together in his workshop to create all sorts of articulated arachnids. While his works frequently contain sections of rare and costly mechanical devices, Peter says he often prevents items that a museum would appreciate from being taken apart.

Peter Szucsy’s mechanical wonders have recently been featured by ThisIsColossal and reported that the Hungarian artist plans to open his own internet to sell some of the spiders on it. Something tells me all of them will be gone really soon. I say, just look at these wonders of mechanics!
