Ederson claimed that he’s Manchester City’s best penalty taker, but insists Pep Guardiola is not going to let him take them.

Last season, when his side went through a bad spell of missing penalties, the City manager himself said that the goalkeeper was the best man in his squad at converting spot-kicks.

From the spot when City missed four of seven between November and February, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan and Sergio Aguero all spurned opportunities.

As he scored five consecutive times, Kevin De Bruyne appeared to be the solution to the dilemma before he pulled a spot-kick wide in November’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Former Sao Paulo keeper Rogerio Ceni influenced Brazilian international Ederson, who scored 131 goals, including free-kicks and penalties.

With Second Division side Ribeirao, Ederson was in charge of dead-ball situations, but Guardiola claims he will only let him take penalties in a shootout or a friendly.

“I don’t train free-kicks too much. I trained penalties and I took some free-kicks when I played for Ribeirao but that’s now in the past,’ Ederson said. I am the greatest punishment taker, but I have not been selected to take them!

“What is most important is that we score goals and win the match.”

On Tuesday, Ederson will return to Portugal for the Champions League clash with Porto on Tuesday to capture the top spot in Group C with the knockout stages already qualified.

Until transferring to City in 2017, the 27-year-old spent five seasons with Rio Ave and then Benfica, but his most recent game in the country was the frustrating August loss to Lyon.

Guardiola has said that this season he has a good feeling” about the rivalry and City’s No 1 says there is no reason why in Europe they should not go a long way.

“That’s what the team is working towards, of course,” Ederson said. “Hard work is the most significant thing. The squad is united, committed, and plays well. We’re changing. We played very well in the last game and I hope we can continue this good work. Our team will go far, I guess.
