I deserved a better chance at Arsenal – Saliba

On-loan Arsenal defender William Saliba does seem to have made a dig at manager Mikel Arteta, saying that at his parent club he should’ve been given more chances.

Pretty early this week, Saliba made a loan move to Ligue 1 side Nice and made his debut in Wednesday’s 2-0 loss against Brest.

In almost a year, it was his first competitive action, and while in the summer of 2019 he signed for Arsenal, he still has to feature for the club, having spent last season on loan with Saint-Etienne.

Arteta believed that he missed first-team football, but that is not the case, Saliba argued.

“Immediately, the coach informed me that I was not ready. “At least I would have liked to have had the opportunity to rediscover my rhythm,” he told the media on Friday.

It was tough for my first six months because I came from six months where I can not practice because I was at home, couldn’t train outside, couldn’t play.

As they were finishing the league season, I arrived there, so I was practicing alone. We quickly had the first friendly matches when they returned from the holidays, where I lacked rhythm and was a little physically inadequate.

In the meantime, he did not rule out a prolonged stay in Nice on the suggestion that his loan arrangement could be extended from six months to 18 months.
