The mysterious Swedish striker played at San Siro on short-term deals and says another could be in the offing.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic expects to hold contract talks with AC Milan that could see him continue on until his 40th birthday in San Siro.

In January 2020, the mysterious Swedish striker returned to familiar surroundings for a second spell.

Originally, he committed himself to a six-month deal, having returned to Europe from a stint with the LA Galaxy in MLS, but soon proved that he was still able to play at the highest level.

The Rossoneri were swift to bind Ibrahimovic down to another 12-month contract as a talismanic presence for Milan.

That will come to a close this summer, which means the 39-year-old must once again weigh his options.

He thinks he can still do a job in Serie A, having helped this season inspire a title challenge, and is open to discussions about his future.

Ibrahimovic told Corriere dello Sport: “As long as I feel well, I will continue playing.” We’ll see, and then we’ll talk about my contract.

I didn’t want to put myself in a bind with no way out, which is why I signed a six-month contract initially, which I then extended. Others made numerous choices.

I don’t want to worry about the amount of games I’ve played, which makes me feel old. My challenge now is to build a young team, which is different from what I used to do. Yet succeeding in it makes me feel better than winning.

Ibrahimovic says he wanted to join Milan for the challenge they were facing, with recent success bypassing the Italian giants, and he remains as eager to achieve positive results as ever.
