Barcelona presidential candidate Xavier Vilajoana has revealed that if he wins the club’s upcoming elections, he will keep Ronald Koeman on as coach.

The search for a new man to oversee the club has started with the resignation of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

And that decision about the boss is just one of the things Vilajoana will do if he emerges victorious, with a conversation with Lionel Messi not far from behind.

“Before saying what I’m going to do, it’s important to get to know him. “I’ll always tell the truth to the representatives. But arguing what’s going to happen before we’ve even had a meeting with the other party is not right.”

The 47-year-old told of the difficulties he expects to face supervising a club that is still struggling with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.” I have always put myself at the disposal of this club”, explained Vilajoana.

” Obviously, we are in a very difficult moment, and that goes for our country and the world. I’ve been on a board before, and when you need to get something done, it’s one of the things that is worth its weight in gold”.

“It’s clear that the situation needs us to think about those things again. We need a stadium [Espai Barca] from my point of view that is ready for the 21st century.

“We need to decide what the best option is, but the final word will come from the representatives. Often I accepted, sometimes I didn’t. In life, all the time, you learn.

“Maybe the most telling thing about the old regime was what Vilajoana said he would do first above all else.

“The first thing I’m going to do is open the windows,” he said, “We need to let in the fresh air. I’ll get to work after that.
