Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has challenged the broadcast media to take the lead in telling the story of Nigeria.
He said this would help guard a portion of the international media against the distortion of the truth.
In Oko, Oyo State, Lai Mohammed spoke during Saturday’s commissioning of the 89.3 FM Station.
I call upon Nigeria’s broadcast media to take the lead in telling the Nigerian story,” he said.”
There is space for distortion of reality in a situation in which international broadcasting stations arrogate themselves the right to tell their own story.
The Minister noted that CNN would have depended on them for news about the end of SARS in particular and other events in Nigeria if the local broadcast media had lived up to their billing.
A phenomenon is a situation in which the local media can rely on and quote international broadcast media for an occurrence in Nigeria. It’s got to stop,’ he said.
